Mia and Nattie: One Great Team is an excellent children's story! It's about care and commitment, and as stated in the description, it's a heartwarming book that teaches readers about problem-solving, teamwork, and love. Yes, it does.
The writing and pictures are simplistic to understand, yet I didn't feel TOO simplistic. This book would really appeal to any youngster that has an interest and love for animals (and especially sheep), and perhaps being involved in 4-H 5th Grade and below. Highly recommended.

This book is the perfect example of what happens when someone (or something) is abandoned and how others step in to assist and take care of that someone. It teaches a very timely lesson to children (and adults) that all things, big and small, are important no matter what they look like or how they came to into this world. Sometimes great things come in small packages.
Mia is a wise young lady and recognizes that Nattie needs some help. Nattie has been abandoned by her mother and Mia sets out to take care of her to make sure she endures. Mia is determined that Nattie finds her place in the world and on the farm. Mia doesn't let the possibility of Nattie leaving the farm to chance, she sets out to prove that everyone and everything has a purpose and value. I love that she doesn't give up and proves to her grandmother that Nattie has a purpose on the farm and should not be sold just because she is lacking in certain areas.
I loved the illustrations, they are realistic, colorful, and whimsical and will be sure to delight any reader.
One additional bonus, this is based on a true story of a lamb named Natalie that the author raised much like Mia and Nattie. I enjoyed reading Natalie's story and how this book came to be, it is a sweet story and one you should read, if not to your child, then at least to yourself.
This book will make the perfect gift and there is a bonus that there is a stuffed lamb that looks just like Nattie that would make a great addition.
We give this book 5 paws up and recommend it to anyone with a young child. I can't wait to share this book with my great-niece.

If you’re looking for a sweet book that teaches kids that their voice matters, that their perseverance pays off, and the power of love and friendship, this one is it!
Mia and Nattie is a great story about a young girl and a lamb on the farm. This little lamb is a little unusual, and Grandma doesn’t think she belongs on the farm. The lamb has a crooked horn and is a bit of a runt. Nattie may not be able to live with the rest of the flock or raise babies of her own. But Mia is a small girl too. She knows Nattie the lamb is special, and Mia sets out to prove it.
Mia uses her determination and grit to show herself and everyone around how one small person (or animal) can make a huge difference in their world.
While I don’t know too much about farm life, I do understand that there are tasks everywhere, mouths to feed, and work to do around the clock. Busy farmers certainly focus on keeping only the healthiest and strongest animals to keep the farm running smoothly. So what makes this book even more special, is it focuses on the animals with more disadvantages and those less likely to thrive in a farm environment.
During hard times, it is not easy to stay motivated and positive. Books like Mia and Nattie are so vital to read to our children right now, and always, really. Instilling a growth mindset in the littles is priceless, and is such a valuable lesson to learn early. What better way to teach perseverance than by reading a fun and happy story.
Mia and Nattie is also a great story to read to differently-abled kids, empowering kids of all abilities to keep trying, and not to give up on their dreams or goals.
The illustrations are lovely, too. Sweet doodles about farm life and depicting our friendly and unusual little sheep Nattie. The drawings are realistic and whimsical, which brings Nattie’s fun quirks to life. The illustrations pair nicely with the storytelling.

Mia and Nattie: One Great Team is a quality hard cover book which will have huge appeal with children as well as adults who read it with them.
It tells the story of Nattie , a lamb born early , a bit small and not steady on her feet abandoned by her Mum who had no milk. Mia took the lamb into the house , warmed it up and began the process of feeding her regularly . The little lamb thrived and Grandma felt it was time to move the lamb outside . Mia loved Nattie , and was alarmed when Grandma said the lamb was big enough to be sold to the neighbour.
But Mia did not give up and came up with a plan to keep the lamb on the property.
It is a lovely story , all the more enjoyable when I read it was based on a real live lamb which the author Marlene Bell had on her own property.
I loved the illustrations by Grace Sandford , they compliment the story and drew me into the book, so I am sure children throughout the world will be enticed into reading from sighting the cover and first pages.

This is a wonderful picture book about Mia and a little lamb Nattie. Nattie was born a little different from the other little lambs, and Mia knew it. However, Mia knew her lamb was going to be very special even though she was born different. This is a wonderful story about how being different can still mean you can accomplish great things. I enjoyed this story very much, and I believe the youngsters will as well.

This book is super adorable. Nattie the lamb is different from others. She was born early and therefore is smaller than the other lambs. Mia takes her into the house to take better care of her. As Nattie grows, Mia’s grandma still doesn’t believe Nattie belongs there. But Mia is determined to show her grandma that Nattie is special!

Mia and Nattie is a sweet, heartfelt story about a girl who always felt small, unwilling to abandon the ewe that doesn't fit in. Award-winning author Marlene M. Bell invites adults and children alike to embrace what makes us unique. What makes one person (or animal) useful may not hold true for another. The important thing is to remember we're all united in love, and our ability to give and receive it, no matter our differences.
I taught pre-school for years, but it's always a revelation to see the way my four-year-old interprets stories. As an author and avid reader, I am always looking closely for things like story beats, characterization, and especially illustration. But children look for something different, don't they? My son usually wants to be either entertained or to learn something. He's always asking questions, and his reactions are blessedly genuine. So when my hardcover copy of Mia and Nattie came in the mail, I couldn't wait to introduce it to my son's bedtime routine.
My son and I live in an old farmhouse in the woods, and his uncle runs cows, so he loved reading about the sheep farm. Much like Mia, my son worried about Nattie's fate and loved seeing the grow and interact with the other sheep. He asked questions like, "did Nattie grow up into that big sheep?" and as we've re-read the story since, "can I see the real Nattie again?" One of our favorite parts of the book is the ending, where Bell shares the true story behind Mia and Nattie, including a photo of the real Nattie hiding behind a tree.
Grace Sanford's artwork, with its clean lines and soft tones, perfectly accompanies Bell's clever prose. While some picture books are dominated by bold illustration work, Mia and Nattie's story is accompanied by simpler art to balance stronger storytelling. Mia and Nattie is meatier than some picture books, which fit perfectly for my book-loving four-year-old. We look forward to more adventures from Marlene M. Bell and hope you'll take a chance to fall in love with Mia and Nattie too.

I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
I loved that before the story started we get the story behind the story! Haha, that sentence sounds chaotic but I just can’t think of another way to word it. I thought the book was based on a fictional story but apparently it is something our author went through herself! That definitely made me more excited to read the story.
And then the story starts. We see how Nattie is born and how Mia takes it on herself to help this little lamb. I loved the bond these two had and how it grew as Nattie became bigger (though throughout her getting older she stayed smaller than the other sheep). The make quite the pair and I loved that Mia never gave up on Nattie. Oh no, no matter what Mia had faith in her lamb, in her sheep, and she knew she was destined for greater things. I was rooting for her and Nattie throughout the story.
I wasn’t always a fan of the grandma. She was so reluctant throughout the book about Nattie, and I wondered why she was thinking of selling it. One more sheep shouldn’t hurt and it makes your granddaughter so happy. I just wanted grandma to see. To understand.
I found the story well-written. Easy language and a good font, I also liked that the font was blue instead of the standard black I see in most books.
The art? Fabulous! As I expected when I saw Grace Sandford’s name on the cover. I love her work and have a few of her books in my library! So I delighted to see her make art for this picture book. Her style is just sweet and adorable. The sheep in this one were just so fluffy I wanted to step in the book for a woolly hug.
All in all, if you are looking for a fluffy and heartwarming book, I would highly recommend this book about a sheep and a girl!

Based on the true story of a lamb that captured the author's heart, this book is an incredibly heartwarming, sweet, and gentle story about commitment and the power of love!
Nattie doesn't quite look like all the other lambs on Mia's Grandma's farm. Born with a crooked horn, short legs, and the smallest of the sheep, Nattie has a lot to overcome if she's going to make it on the farm. Despite Nattie's differences, Mia loves this small lamb unconditionally and works hard to prove to others how invaluable Nattie is to the farm. And it is through this endearing bond that their friendship shines!
The story vividly demonstrates how children can have a voice, and through perseverance, they can make things happen. Mia is a testament to the idea that where there is a will, there is always a way!
The illustrations are realistically portrayed, but have a very whimsical touch that certainly adds charming visual representation for all the heartfelt emotion expressed throughout the story. Many pages feature full-spread illustrations that showcase just how mighty this little lamb becomes. These precious illustrations are inviting to young readers and have a nostalgic style that adults will enjoy as well. I really appreciated that the animals are not anthropomorphic, so as to celebrate the real-life relationship that develops between animals and humans.
The quality of the book's construction is amazing, especially given that it will more than likely become a huge hit with your child and receive lots of handling. This hardcover is extremely sturdy with thick pages that are well bound, so it's going to take a lot for this book to fall apart! And the end pages of the book are absolutely gorgeous!
Overall, this is an adorable and absolutely delightful picture book that will resonate with readers of all ages!

Mia and Nattie: One Great Team! by Marlene M. Bell is a cute story with adorable illustrations by Grace Sandford. If you were to judge this book by its cover, your assessment would probably be correct. This is a quality hardcover children’s book with crisp lines, bright colors, and beautiful binding. (I would love to buy the endpapers as wrapping paper or in journal form.)
The fact that this story is based on true life makes it even more charming. There is nothing more heartwarming than a story of a child creating a bond with an innocent creature. The story of Mia and Nattie is like a viral video from The Dodo where a kind human sees past an animal’s imperfections and sees the beautiful spirit within.
When I read this book to my 7-year-old, the plot and the cute pictures immediately pulled him in. He asked why Nattie was alone and couldn’t fathom why the grandmother didn’t want to keep the little lamb inside the house. He really liked how Nattie’s short and straight little horn made her look like a unicorn. He was worried about her wellbeing but was very happy with the ending, as was I.
Unlike other children’s books, this one goes beyond looking pretty and teaches valuable lessons without patronizing kids. Bell’s writing style is clean and conveyed nicely by way of font choice and page layout. I think that the recommended audience of kindergarten through third grade is spot on. I recommend this book to anyone with children in their lives. In a school or childcare setting, this book is a great lesson on embracing differences and deserves a prime spot on every bookshelf.

It's hard not to fall in love with Nattie and wish to cuddle up next to her warm, woolly side.
Based on a true life experience and a real sheep, this picture book tells the tale of a pre-maturely born lamb and her bond to a young girl. Mia finds the newborn lamb, Nattie, and knows it doesn't have a large chance at surviving thanks to its size. Taking Nattie in, she cares for her in her kitchen until Grandmother insists the sheep needs live outside. It soon becomes clear that Nattie can't live with the other sheep and doesn't seem to have a purpose on the farm. But Mia refuses to let Nattie be sold and soon discovers exactly how valuable Nattie is.
This book is done with quality and care. The illustrations bring life to Nattie and Mia. Especially Nattie quickly becomes hard not to love with her realistic portrayal and her own, endearing personality.

The ending makes Nattie that much more lovable and shows how warm and loving this sheep really is. Wholesome, good feelings are left behind, making this one a read that definitely belongs in the 'again' category.

Marlene M. Bell has created another charming children’s book. Mia and Nattie relates the story of a young small lamb named Nattie who has a crooked horn needing to find a place in the world. Mia takes it upon herself to save Nattie and find a purpose for this young lamb on her Grandmother��s farm.
One of the true essences of this children’s book is that everything does have a purpose in this life and sometimes it just needs helping in finding that purpose. It's a beautiful story! A little girl named Mia befriends a baby lamb. Both the girl and the lamb are considered less than perfect, but they are perfect together and they are a wonderful illustration of what friendship is about. Additionally, the artwork of the book is excellent. I highly recommend this story for children. It is both wholesome and teaches a very good life lesson!

Yes, you've seen this book on my blog before, and if you follow me on social media, you saw me singing its praises back in November, 2020, when we had this fabulous book and Texas author on Lone Star Literary Life. When I say I can't get enough of little Nattie, I'm not kidding. This story gripped my heart from the first moment I laid eyes upon it, back when it was still in its formative stages and the author blessed me with a peek at it. I promise you that Mia and Nattie: One Great Team will tug on the heartstrings of anyone who spends times within the pages of this beautiful book.

There are a lot of books out there, so if I'm clicking through digital shelves (and as soon as is safe again, browsing in-store, in-person), a book has to catch my eye. Mia and Nattie has a sweet cover graphic and soothing colors that draw you to it, and once you pick up the book and hold it in your hands, you won't want to let it go. Its construction is top quality with a sturdy cover and a size perfect for little hands. Open the cover, and the first few pages lure you in with artwork that would make great stationery! And the talented Grace Sandford's artwork that complements the story is whimsical and warm and expressive: a perfect match to the story.
The story...Marlene Bell's words are as lovely as the illustrations. Her word choices are perfect in their simplicity, and the text is nicely balanced on the pages so that the blocks aren't overwhelming to the young reader. The book lends itself perfectly as a read-along, with a young one snuggled into the lap of her grandma, studying the illustrations and hearing the beautiful story. Have you ever loved an animal so much you considered it your best friend? Did you talk to it and tell it all your problems? I know I did. Marlene M. Bell does a fantastic job bringing to life the very best of our pet-loving memories, and she does it in such an enchanting way!
I was drawn into this cute story from the very first page. You can tell that the author and illustrator worked well together by the way each illustration shows the emotions on the page, and in this case, they were memory-invoking for me. I loved Mia’s attitude and caring nature. She never gave up or lost hope for Nattie. Instead, Mia time and time again persevered in the face of defeat. She truly showed how much she cared about Nattie’s well-being.

I also enjoyed the progression of the story and how Marlene M. Bell developed the story in an easy-flowing way that any age could understand. Her word choices were not too basic that older children would not enjoy the story (I mean I enjoyed it), yet they were still simple enough that even very young kids would enjoy this book too. Especially if you make sounds 😊. I thought the themes that Marlene M. Bell chose to display, perseverance, loyalty, and standing up for what you believe in, were just right for this book, and the Illustrations certainly helped me picture life for Mia and Nattie; They were beautifully done and show attention to detail. I look forward to reading more adventures from Mia and Nattie!
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars for the fun engaging story, for the relevant themes, and for making me want to read more about Mia and Nattie’s adventures! The only thing that I noticed was that a couple of the first pages seemed rushed and I wished that there had been more details to fill the gaps; but that would not affect young readers, and did not affect the readability of the story. I sincerely recommend reading this book (Or getting it as a Christmas gift) for anyone who likes books.

Mia and Nattie is the story of a young girl named Mia and the tiny, orphaned lamb she finds and raises, Nattie. As Nattie grows, Mia's grandmother insists that a small and not perfectly formed ewe doesn't serve a purpose on their working farm and that Nattie should find a new home, but Mia is determined to prove Nattie's worth and show her grandmother that although Nattie won't be a mother and provide them with new little lambs, she can most certainly do valuable things for the farm. What are those things? Read to find out!
This story is absolutely adorable, and so are the illustrations that go with them. My favourite illustration is definitely baby Nattie surrounded by foliage doodles on page 4. My heart is melting!
This is a great little book that can be used to teach kids to accept differences, theirs or others, and to show them that everyone has value. Not everyone can do the same things in the same way, but everyone has something to offer and no one should be overlooked.
I loved the page at the back telling the story of the real miracle ewe that inspired the story, Natlie, complete with an adorable photo of the sheep peeking out from behind a tree.
I will definitely be recommending this book to my mother and sister, both primary school teachers, and I foresee reading this one to my daughter countless times in the near future! My daughter had already gone to bed when I prepared this review and the tour stop, but my cats were only too happy to help get a photo of the book!

When I was approached to be part of the blog tour for Mia and Nattie, I knew I had to say yes because Mia’s story was very similar to my own as a child. My parents also raised sheep and my very first pet was an orphaned lamb I called, Lambie. I bottle-fed her and kept her in a box in our house until she was old enough and big enough to go outside. Lambie stayed on our farm for many years until she passed.
Nattie, the newborn lamb, was left behind by her mother who couldn’t raise her. Mia noticed how small Nattie was and brought her inside. She fed her milk in a bottle and kept her warm, but Nattie really didn’t grow very much. Eventually, Mia’s grandma said it was time for Nattie to go outside. As Nattie adjusted to life on the farm, Grandma felt it was time for Nattie to go on to another farm. But, Mia couldn’t bear to lose Nattie and came up with a plan to keep her with her.
Kids that feel left out or different, children that are smaller than their peers, or kids that need a little extra love will find this story to be really special. Reading this took me back to my own childhood of caring for Lambie and reminded me how special she was to me.
Mia’s love and care for Nattie and her determination to find a way to keep her on the farm teach kids problem-solving and how to fight for something they are passionate about or for someone they love. MIA AND NATTIE: ONE GREAT TEAM! has been awarded The Eric Hoffer Award Grand Prize Short List and Mom’s Choice Awards Honoring Excellence. True Story with a Relatable Message for Families. It is not easy being little--and feeling that everyone has roles to play and something to offer the family except maybe the littlest one. Mia and Nattie is a cute story of a little lamb that was born different, so Mia brought Nattie home and kept her inside the laundry room. That is until her grandma made her move Nattie outside. Grandma still wants to get rid of Nattie but then find out she is a special sheep. But will Nattie be able to earn her stay, as far as the grandma is concerned?
I love Mia and Nattie and Mia was such a good girl to take care of the little lamb. And after Nattie grew into a sheep, Mia still loved her special animal. The love between these two shines bright. Though sometimes grandma doesn’t seem so happy with Mia. I thought the author did a really nice job of telling their story. As well as showing that an animal that is different does have a purpose. And I love the story at the end of the book about the real Natalie. How cool is that, knowing Nattie was real, and that this story is based on the real life Nattie. I just love the illustrations by Grace Sandford, they are so adorable. She was able to capture the story through the pictures she created. I love the vibrant, beautiful colors and the adorable Nattie. And Mia and her grandma were so cute, though grandma did have some weird facial moments in there that were very comical. I found this story a really sweet and adorable read. A read that should be in every daycare, preschool, kindergarten, and all elementary library. Be sure to ask you child’s school library, ad well as your public library to get copies of Mia and Nattie’s story. This is one book that will sure be checked out by every student, especially the little girls.
This precious little book, with it’s sweet story, it’s precious characters, with the illustrations that tell the story so well, is beautiful inside and out. I will save this one for my new grandaughter! And this one is a Five plus Stars for me! I would love to be able to give this one more Stars, it sure deserves more!

When a little newborn sheep is abandoned in the barn, Mia brings her into her Grandmother’s house, and bottle feeds her. Eventually she grows big enough to live outside. Mia loves Nattie, and wants to keep her as a pet. Nattie is a very small sheep, too small to flock with the rest of the herd. She needs to find her a way to be useful so she can stay on the working farm with Mia.
Mia and Nattie is an honest depiction of raising livestock, which is a little sad at times, although it all works out for the little sheep in a very nice way.
The art is digital cartooning done in a two-dimensional style. Grace Sandford uses thick outlines, and pencil-thin lines for details and textures. There are lots of details in the scenes, there are wood swirls on the fences, and the fleece is fluffy. Lots of soft colors complement the natural colors of sheep’s wool. I liked all the drawings of the little lambs. They look very soft and friendly.

This children's book was a moving testimony to the way a person allows an animal to become part of their family. Nattie is a special baby animal on the farm and she needed extra attention to reach her potential. Mia is the small youngster who becomes Nattie's caregiver while encouraging new skills until Nattie finds her purpose to remain at the farm. My preschool age granddaughter gave this story "2 THUMBS UP". My beginning reader grandson learned how to pronounce a new word: "EWE". Both children had huge smiles on their faces after we read the book together. Ever since I won this title in a FB contest , I have been sharing the story with each person in my family. One person loved the way Nattie was fed with a bottle of milk. Another was impressed with Mia's perseverance to find a way to give Nattie a meaningful job on the farm. Grandpa loved listening to a story read by his grandson. My daughter and son-in-law were content to go out to dinner while their kids were entertained and entertaining the grandparents with this story. 5 STARS!

This is a perfect read for Preschool or early elementary age children. I highly recommend it for Summer Reading Programs and children's' Book Clubs.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Nattie is a lamb who is determined to live, and Mia is determined to keep her new friend that she has bottle fed from the beginning. I like the perseverance that Mia shows as well as the reality of farm life as depicted by her grandma.
Mia & Nattie is based on a lamb that the author had for 13 years. There’s even a photo of the real Nattie at the end of the book. She was the buddy to all of the orphan lambs every spring and fall. She not only helped the orphans, but having lambs around helped Nattie since sheep are flocking animals.
This is a wonderful story, and the illustrations are colorful. Both the story and the pictures should keep the attention of children. I definitely recommend Mia & Nattie, and I can’t wait to share it with my grandkids!

Sweet Story Based in Reality
I've never considered myself an animal person, but I found this children's story about a little lamb and her child keeper absolutely enchanting. Before the picture book starts, the author shares the story of the real Nattie, including a picture of her. So, while the story is fictional, it has some basis in a tiny lamb (that became a ewe) that was a part of the author's life. In the story, the little girl finds a small lamb born too early for her mother's milk to come in. She takes her inside and bottle feeds her. Even though Nattie is a little malformed with a crooked smile, short legs, and one horn that's like a unicorn’s, Mia finds her perfect and does everything she can to take care of her. When it's time for her to live outside, not in the laundry room anymore, Mia makes a special place for her. But since she is too little to have lambs of her own when she grows into a ewe, Grandma decides to sell her. Mia does not want to lose Nattie, and eventually, she finds a “job” on the farm that Nattie can do. The illustrations are simple but show Mia’s emotions (including the love!). I like how this story shows the power of friendship, especially a relationship between those who are not “perfect” (Mia sees herself as small and inconsequential). None of us are, after all, but for some of us, it's more obvious. I liked, too, that this book shows how we all have a place, even if it is not typical or something considered before. This is a sweet book to share with young animal lovers and those who ever felt they didn't fit in.

Mia and Nattie: One Great Team by Marlena M. Bell is a sweet story of friendship between a small girl named Mia and an orphaned baby sheep named Nattie. Nattie was abandoned by her mother because there was not enough milk to feed her. Mia discovers Nattie and takes her inside to care for and bottle feed. Mia and Nattie bond and Mia feels that Nattie is perfect even if f she is small and imperfect. Eventually Grandmother says that Nattie has to go outside, but Nattie doesn't know how to be an outdoor sheep. Mia works with Nattie to get her ready to live outside with the other sheep. Grandmother has other ideas and wants to sell Nattie because se is too small to have babies. n Mia convince Grandmother that Nattie can serve a purpose on the farm or will Nattie be sold?
This is a sweet story and the illustrations are adorable. Who wouldn't want a cute baby sheep as a friend after reading this story? Children will adore Nattie (and may ask if they can have a lamb as a pet) while they learn about friendship, teamwork, compassion, and love. It also shows that everyone has value, no matter what imperfections they may have.

I found a sweet book about a little girl and a baby lamb. This story is a sweet one. Though I think mostly about compassion and how being unique and special. What will happen to this baby sheep that is born and makes a connection with a little girl?
Will Mia find a special job that will help keep her on the farm? Will Grandma sell her as she thinks. Mia seems quite attached to Nattie. The story seems to show you that small and little that they can help when they find the right job or special thing they are good at.
The pictures are done well. They are cute. The pictures are what makes me turn the pages. They seem drawn well. Mia does some special care for Nattie. You will be surprised what Nattie's special magic or talent is.
This book shows what teamwork is or can be. It doesn't always have to be two kids or two people that do the teamwork. That was seen in this book.
This book is good for those that have children that love farm animals and or animals in general. It teaches and also shows that some animals can be calming and stress relievers without being with others. What a lovely story about a little girl and a baby sheep. What a good book to pick up. Children can learn about teamwork and caring for baby animals.

The best way I can describe the impact Mia and Nattie had on me is that it gave me all the feels. It is such an incredibly sweet and inspiring little story! The adorable illustrations are fitting and the perfect accompaniment to this powerful tale. With sturdy pages, cute drawings, and a weighty theme, my hardback copy is certainly a keeper.
Based on a true story, Nattie, a tiny preemie lamb, is loved and taken care of by young Mia. Despite Nattie's little frame and unusual horn, Mia protects and believes in the little lamb's importance and eventually reveals Nattie's unique gift.
Not only is this story sweet and fun to read but is quite meaningful. We each have our own weaknesses and faults, yet we also possess special gifts we can offer others. Mia and Nattie are a sweet, memorable team!
