The notes in this book are thought provoking and would be a great gift to all parents. There are 25 notes and I enjoyed them all, but my favorites were:
Honor Your Commitments
Every Day Counts
Once You Post, It’s Out There Forever
When In Doubt, Be Nice

If I could only give you one example of what’s in this book, it would be from Note 7: “Words can be daggers to the heart, or they can lift it up.” Every child need to learn this early in life. Like “Once you post it…” Once you say it, you can’t take it back. I think words are a powerful weapon that should never be spoken in anger.

There are also quotes at the end of the notes. At the end of Note 9 there is a quote by an unknown author which says “Everything You Do Comes Back To You”. I believe this 100%.

I enjoyed this book very much, but as I’ve thought about it and have read my notes since I finished it, I find myself liking it more and more. It’s a book you can pick up from time to time and search the list of note titles and find the one that helps with something going on in your life at the time. I think this book is great for your children, but the advice can be used for any family member or your friends.

This little book of sage advise is a great addition to any father's personal library. In fact, it is an informative guide for any parent. Some of the topics it addresses are commitment, trust, being a father/dad (the differences), responsibility, psychology vs. physiology, work ethics, plus nineteen more!

In delivering this compilation of "tid-bits", the author adds a bit of humor. The total affect is brief and not boring.

This would be a great gift for Father's Day or for a new father.

* This book was gifted me with no stipulation foe a positive review. This is my honest review.

Notes to My Son is a collection of 25 "notes" that are 2-3 pages in length, all dedicated to a myriad of topics. Some of them include taking the high road and being kind, even in situations where a person might want to react angrily or with another negative emotion, refusing to let certain topics be considered taboo, and learning from your past (mistakes) to pave way for a better future. Each note offers wise words of wisdom and advice that anyone can take and apply to their own, everyday life. Whether you're a parent, a teenager looking to have an honest conversation with your parents, or just someone seeking some good advice, Notes to My Son is a worthwhile read.

I'm not a dad, but I am a mom to two boys, and I think a lot of these notes contain some amazing lessons to help guide kids (both sons and daughters) in a direction that will benefit them throughout life, should they choose to follow those lessons. And I believe parents can benefit from these lessons as well.

Growing up, I didn't have a father (he wasn't in my life due to his own personal choices), and my mother was a toxic narcissist (which I didn't discover until much later in life), so I didn't have anyone giving me advice or helping to guide me to become an independent, responsible, useful adult. It was a lot of trial and error on my own, learning what I could by seeing how others acted, spoke, etc. I always told myself I would be better when I became a parent. And I think, even with my stumbles along the way ('cause let's face it, parenting isn't easy sometimes), I'm on the right path when it comes to my kids. Having this book just gives me more motivation and more inspiration to continue down that path. I'll be taking the words I read in Notes to My Son, molding them in a way that works for me, personally, and using them to help both myself and my sons become the best people we can be.

Notes to My Son is an amazing book, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone.

Eric Lynn Shares Short, Easy to Read Words of Wisdom. While Notes to My Son is short--the author's chosen "notes" are packed with must-read wisdom and thought provoking points. I loved that the notes were only a few pages long--making it easy to read for a busy, easily distracted parent! While short--each and every note was truly useful for a father to share with a son (or a parent to share with a daughter!) The notes selected are sure to help the child live life's "big picture" with intention in many areas and stages of life.

Notes to My Son is useful for any parent. Again--while the book is written by a father for his son--the wisdom is, in most cases, easy to apply to a daughter or a mother/child relationship as well. Parents do not receive a "guide book" with a newborn as they leave the hospital. Readers will appreciate Lynn's insights whether they are new parents or parents facing later stages of the game. This book is one that can actually be read again and again as life's situations present themselves for those needing reminders and a little extra guidance or support along the way!

Would I recommend Notes to My Son by Eric Lynn? As my readers know, I love memoirs and "life" stories. The author does a wonderful job creating a useful, parenting resource book that is just a little different than a usual self-help book. He presents real-world, real-life advice that parents should share with any child. Most of the notes in this book are written in a very practical, down to Earth tone that readers will readily enjoy--and readily share (or wish they had shared as their own children grew!). I would recommend this a gift for new parents--but, also as a treasure to more seasoned parents to pass on to older children as well.

I received a copy of this book from the author or publisher for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.

Notes To My Son is a short book filled with focused, to the point themed chapters. In each, the author shares a single nugget of wisdom that can be applied in both your personal and professional life.

I am a fan of this format for this genre of book. Having each chapter offer just one thought allows you to pick the book up, read about a single idea, and then put it down. You have all the time you need to think about what you've read as it's not packaged with a lot of other information. Does it apply to your life? How can you make this work for you? You can also pick the book up and put it down over a long period of time as each chapter stands on its own - great if you have limited free time.

What did surprise me was the complexity of the language at times. As Notes to My Son was inspired by the upcoming birth of his first child, I expected the book to be written in a simpler language - more like how a father would talk to a younger son. Instead, Wynn has chosen to write it in a very adult business language - "Metrics are objectives or goals," "accelerating your completion percentage," "conversion quantifiable," "connotation of belief."

As this book is meant to be a sharing of knowledge with both his son and a wider adult readership, I think it would have benefitted by simplifying some of the language. I found it distracting when I had to occasionally pause to consider what a phrase here and there meant.

A quick, enjoyable read with lots of life nuggets to inspire you, but you'll have to wrap your mind around some complicated business language here and there.

MY THOUGHTS ON  THIS BOOK

Author Lynn does an amazing job of writing note that will help him in raising his son. Parenting can be a headache sometimes and its nice to see a book like this. To me, some of the notes are so sweet, as Mr. Lynn talks about the relationship with his son. A few of the notes that stood out to me are, Every Day Counts; and Live in the Present, Learn from your Past and Love Your Future, each talking about the day to day relationship with his son. Another note I found was amazing advice is, Your Parents Will Make Mistakes, Jot Them Down and Reference Them Later. Wish I had thought of this one with my son.

There are 25 Notes in this book, all so very important, all can be a huge help for a father raising his son, whether it be your first son or second, and so on. One other thing I want to say is, I'm the mom, not the dad, and I would have loved having these notes to reference when my son was younger. So moms, this can help you as well.

I encourage you to check out this short book. If you don't like reading, I think you would be able to read each note at different times. They are very short, large font, and only takes a few minutes. Why not give Notes to My Son a try today!

Notes to My Son is a beautifully written book to read. The whole book is only little over 100 pages long with 25 notes to the author’s son. Each note is only a couple of pages long and includes: a short and inspiring message, a quick note and a quote from many different people. Some readers may recognize some these various author quotes - some are well known and some are unknown. I liked all of these notes. They were thought provoking, logical, and powerful. Some of which, I never really thought about. So, it was not just lessons to learn o their children – son or daughter, it is lessons learned for the parents, as well – mom or dad. I enjoyed getting a candid look of the author and his son. I thought it was so sweet and tender to see the loving relationship between the two. There was some humor that I liked that made me smile to myself. I understand many of the notes and wished I had this book to read before having my children.

I am giving Notes to My Son a very well deserved five plus stars. I think this would make a perfect gift for expectant parents. I plan to pass my copy of the book to my nephew as he awaits the birth of daughter later this year. I think he will find some great tips, advice, great wisdom and inspiration by what is in between the pages. I highly recommend it for other parents, they will not regret it!

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

What I Loved:
I loved the concept and execution of Notes to My Son. Written in the form of 25 letters to his son, Eric Lynn shares advice on life, being a dad, and so much more. I loved the way he put his feelings down as a tribute to his son.

How I Felt:
The letters, or notes, that Lynn has compiled for his son are broken up into 25 unique pieces. I have found that these really stayed with me after I finished. There is a lot of wonderful advice for people of all ages in this book.

In each of the segments, Lynn writes a few pages on his thoughts on each of the chapter’s topics. He gives inspiring notes and a quote. I enjoyed the little humorous additions that Lynn added to the advice section. It gave a lighthearted feel to the stories.

Overall: This was a lovely book dedicated from a father to his son. I loved the insightful thoughts on each chapter, and I know that others will too.

To Read or Not To Read:
I would recommend Notes to My Son for any parent. The ideas discussed in this book are perfect for an expecting parent, or one who has children that are grown. This would make a great gift for Father’s Day or a baby shower!

I was provided an advanced reader's copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

***I received this as a Goodreads Giveaway winner and was not paid for my review.

As a father of 3, I loved this little book. As the title suggests, it is a compilations of notes. Ones that I can see a reflective father thinking about holding a baby while s/he sleeps. The notes are full of wisdom and solid points to live an abundant, healthy and loving life.

Admittedly, I did not like a few of the large (never used) words the author used. I am not certain if the usage was to show his level of intelligence, or was to inspire a son to pull out the dictionary. I think it took away from the rest of the "down to earth" type of comments he wrote. Nonetheless, I loved the notes and the meaning behind them.

It is a short read but the lessons lasts for a lifetime

I almost cried reading this book. I get emotional because my husband and my son's relationship is not good. I even read a chapter to my husband hoping that he will learn something but nothing.

This book is a short read but so informational and the lessons learned will last for a lifetime. My favorite chapter is 4, the H.A.L.T. It made me realize how are actions can hurt someone when we speak and make decisions base on these emotions. I am more aware when dealing emotions mention from this beautiful notes.

I love the cover of this book too. The shoes are too cute. When I need something, I will reread some notes from this beautiful book.

My copy of this book was received via Goodreads giveaway which has no bearing on my review.

It's kind of hard to review this as this felt more like a specific father's notes to a specific son. There are a few notes that can be generalized, but several of them equate to "privileged people problems."

Overall, it was nice to see a man anticipating being a father, realizing he would make mistakes, and trying to explain his worldview to his yet-unborn son. Several times, however, it felt like it lost focus and ventured more toward talking to a wider audience and creeping into humblebrag territory. That made it just "okay" for me.

2 out of 5 stars.
